Board Meeting Notes, December 2007

| Return to Meeting Notes List |

Present: Hanne Barnes, Liz Farrington, Laura Marshall, Maureen Reilly and her blueberry muffins, Sarah Mills
Missed: Everyone else
Thanks: To Maureen for inviting us to her great loft

Despite our small group, we generated new ideas and moved things forward. Ready for 2008! We’ll have a board conference call in January and another meeting in March and hope those dates are better for everyone.

Please put the updated email addresses from the email message in your electronic address book. I’m also attaching an updated board roster which you can keep wherever you know to look for it!

New Website!!

Laura Marshall took us through the new website she created, leaving us in awe at her talent – “Just a hobby,” she calls it!

Seventh Annual January Tea

Evites coming very soon, postcard invite to the 250 without email addresses recorded.
Sunday, Jan. 6, 2:00-5:00 PM. Same place: Hanne’s parents’ loft on Delancey. This is as much a recruiting event as an alumnae gathering, where YOU are the ones who can sway a young woman’s thinking about Smith. Be there! We want to get a board photo for the website, too.

Events/Programs

New ideas:

  • Gathering for tea at a Chinatown tea shop people have been hearing about.
  • Wine-tasting/barbeque evening, maybe combined in late spring with stuffing care packages for current students.
  • Young alums (’97-’07) adopt a current student, become email buddies, etc. We have almost 200 young alums and 45 current San Francisco and Marin students.
  • “Yield” event between acceptances being mailed and decisions being made for SF/Marin students accepted to class of 2012.

Be thinking about starting a “project with benefits” – raising money for general scholarships, for a particular local student in need, for a local graduating student in debt, or any “cause” we choose.

“Booksmiths” Book Group

Liz will schedule a first meeting for January, once the holidays are behind us all.

Theater Event

Christina Stephen has again volunteered to organize a theater evening. We chose Nikolai Gogol’s The Government Inspector at A.C.T. which plays March 20-April 20. “One part political parody, one part Waiting for Guffman, and scathingly funny through-and-through.” “…The Government Inspector could easily be set in Anytown, USA.”
We’ll be announcing this soon, with a specific date to follow.

See you all at the Tea on January 6!
