Annual Book Award Program, Spring 2003 Update
| Return to Meeting Notes List |
The Smith Club of San Francisco & Marin proudly announces the second year of our annual Book Award program.
Honoring local high school juniors of distinction, the book award program is one of the college's most powerful recruitment and public relations tools.
Smith Book Award recipients, chosen by their teachers and guidance counselors for outstanding academic achievement and leadership, receive a copy of a book inscribed to them (this year's book is The Road from Coorain by Jill Ker Conway). Additionally, each award winner will have her application fee waived, should she decide to apply to Smith in the fall.
The book award program is an excellent way to reach local students who might otherwise not look at Smith. It also builds name recognition and visibility at target schools thereby reminding teachers, guidance counselors and parents that Smith's academic excellence remains a compelling option for young women today.
This year we've expanded our program to include the following 8 schools (4 in San Francisco and 4 in Marin):
- Redwood High School
- The Branson School
- San Rafael High School
- San Marin High School
- Lick-Wilmerding High School
- Lowell High School
- School of the Arts
- Thurgood-Marshall Academic High School.
All awards will be presented in during May and early June, depending on each school's academic calendar and awards' ceremony schedule.
YOU CAN HELP!!
If you have a connection to any high school in San Francisco or Marin/North Bay that you think might be helpful to us, please let us know. Maybe you graduated from a local high school, know a teacher or a neighbor's child who attends a local school. Personal contacts can truly make our recruiting efforts more successful.
The Smith Club of San Francisco and Marin does not receive financial support from Smith for this program. The cost of the books are supported solely by due paying members of our local Club. A contribution to this program would be greatly appreciated, as it will allow us to reach out to even more high schools in our area.
For more information, or to get involved with the Book Award program, please contact: Lesley Holmes Reidy '94 (Marin Admissions Co-AAC) at 415.721.0618 or via email: Lhreidy@yahoo.com.
If you'd like to make a donation to help underwrite the cost of the books, please contact: Elayna Berean '96 (Treasurer) at via email at bereane@yahoo.com.
