About the SFM Smith Club

Who We Are | The Board | News & Notes

The Smith College Club of San Francisco and Marin is more than 750 alumnae strong, and includes alumnae from all years. We strive to provide alumnae with opportunities to get to know each other, to network and learn from each other, and to create some of the Smith dynamism in the Bay Area.

News from our President, Sarah Cross Mills '66, Winter 2007-08

Dear San Francisco and Marin Smith Alumnae,

Welcome to our wonderful, new website! We’re so grateful to Laura Marshall ’01, Webmistress, for all the time she put into developing this beautiful and user-friendly online home. Come back often to connect with other alumnae, local events and campus happenings!

Our board intends to provide a variety of events where you can meet with classmates and get to know other alumnae, all of whom have something unique to share from their post-Smith lives. We’re fortunate to have the Alumnae Association’s support in sending a professor to meet with us for an annual program. We would love to hear your ideas about future activities that would interest you. Some events this past year (a theater production, a museum tour) have happened because one alum had an idea and passed it on to the board or organized it all herself.

Another important function of the club is carried out by those who promote Smith to young women in local high schools. We all can take pride in our record for the number of local applications and acceptances, but it wouldn’t happen without the team that works with our Alumnae Admissions Coordinators to represent Smith at college fairs, meet with school personnel, interview prospective students and generally raise awareness that the Smith experience has great value for young women.

We have over 750 alumnae in San Francisco and Marin, all of whom receive our mailings. We couldn’t produce a newsletter or an event announcement without the support of dues-paying members, so we greatly appreciate those of you who have sent in a membership form and dues. We invite the rest of you to do the same – you’ll find the form on this website. Club dues also enable us to offer events and programs such as the annual tea, the Young Alumnae picnic, the Book Awards program, and exam-time gifts to current students. Also, if the college doesn’t have your email address, you’re missing out on our most-frequent means of communicating. We send regular (almost monthly) e-newsletters with announcements of events and other special opportunities and news, so our print newsletters are once-a-year at most.

I look forward to meeting many more of you in the coming year. Please let us know in what ways you’d like to strengthen your connection with other local Smith women, learn something new or just have fun!
